Let’s start with this - my blog heading change! I decided to change my blog titles from “Life Lesson” to “Lily of the Valley Wisdom.” Going forward, I will use that wording because it is in line with what I want to represent. Thank you so much for being part of my journey, you are literally watching Lily of the Valley evolve! ☺ Reader, in order to propel my dreams, all I had to do was execute. I love this quote by Arnold Schwarzenegger and oh my, he said it with truth, and it rings to my heart:
“You cannot climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets.”
Reader, have you felt stuck not knowing what to do with your life? Do you feel frustrated because you may not know how to dream? Or have you stopped dreaming because of life’s distractions? Have you started thinking that you do not have passion for your life? Are you able to comprehend the term “desire” and how it applies to your life?
Let’s rewind with this question: “What are your core values?”
Many organizations and programs have core values. I love this definition from The Balanced Career website - Click this link to read it now!.
Core values are traits or qualities that are not just worthwhile. They represent an individual's or an organization's highest priorities, deeply held beliefs, and core, fundamental driving forces. They are the heart of what your organization and its employees stand for in the world.
You see, the definition for core values is tailored to organizations’ aspects. Now, let’s change the narrative and perspective. How about applying those core values to an INDIVIDUAL - which means yourself?
What are YOUR core values? Have you thought about that?
I was driving to work the other day and thinking about my life in general. The question came to my mind, “What are your core values, Ana?” Oh, gee! That was a powerful question. I never thought about having core values for myself.
I was having a meaningful conversation with my best friend about core values, which led to a conversation that we will never forget. I urge you to have these treasurable conversations with people you love. Life is so precious, friend. When you meet with your friend or family member, start a discussion about personal values. You will be amazed to hear what you have learned about that person. Core values are valuable. They are the key to who you are.
Core values for YOURSELF are extremely important. Let me tell you why:
Core values are a part of who you are.
Core values are a part of your identity.
Core values are self-respect.
Core values are self-love.
You are a gem. There is no other you.
Any person or situation that comes into your life is a test, always a test - remember that.
Here is an example:
Person A came into my life. Person A wanted to get to know me. Person A’s demeanor is authentic, empathetic, and mature. I observed Person A’s way of life, decision making, life choices, and attitude of life. And….it matched my core values. As a result, I gave Person A my good heart.
Here is another example:
Person B’s personality was different. Person B is demanding, has high expectations, makes hasty assumptions, quickly gets angry, loses patience easily, fails to respect boundaries, and is very high maintenance. If I kindly explained my feelings and thoughts to Person B, Person B would get flustered as a response. This means Person B’s values did not align with my core values, so I ended up cutting this Person out of my life. I wished Person B well, forgave them and moved on.
Now Reader, let’s talk about you. The questions asked in the beginning of this blog are great questions to ask yourself during a “date” with yourself. So, reader, try these self-love steps:
Please grab your journal and find a comfortable seat. Write those questions above in your journal. You could even go to your favorite coffee shop. (Purchase your LOV Journal here!)
Close your eyes to think about your core values. When you write down your answers, be kind to yourself.
Make sure you date each entry! It is a beautiful thing to watch the answers bloom as time goes by.
Now you have the core values for yourself. You have the keys to unlock who you are! Isn’t that beautiful? You are a valuable human being.
So, now share this valuable life lesson with someone you love and care about, because of this, you are creating a ripple effect for yourself and people in your life (such as family, friends, coworkers, etc.).
You may ask, “Ana, how many core values should I have?” The answer is simple. It is up to you. You decide. You have that power. ☺
You may ask, “I do not know how to find my core values. I do not know where to start. What should I do?” Rest assured, this is why my LOV Life Coaching Program is here for you.
