Hello friends!
As I type this blog post, I find myself perched upon my balcony, surrounded by the boisterous calls of a flock of birds. As someone who is Deaf and relies on hearing aids, the calm and happiness I experience from observing and listening to these beautiful creatures is immeasurable. Their presence serves as a reminder to appreciate the wonders of the world around us.
As I reflect on life's wonders, a particular memory comes to mind. It was a humorous incident that occurred with my adolescent son, who is currently 14 years old. On a particular occasion, I inquired about the location of a dog by asking, "Where is the dog? I hear the dog barking." In his polite manner, my son gently corrected me by pointing out that it was actually the bird that was making the noise. While I initially felt a bit foolish because I mistook a bird's vibrant cry for a canine's playful bark! My son and I both had a hearty laugh over the situation. In hindsight, it is a cherished memory that we still reminisce about. This invaluable lesson is something I carry with me every day, serving as a poignant reminder to decelerate, cherish each moment, and remain fully present in the world that envelopes me.
Friend, the world we live in is replete with numerous distractions, often referred to as "noise.” Have you ever paused for a while, taken a deep breath and focused on the present moment? It's important to remember to be attentive to the smell, feel, touch, sights and sounds around you. If you can't recall the last time you engaged in this practice, take a moment to stop what you're doing and look around you. Take deep breaths and focus on one object, noticing all of its details. If you have hearing aids, listen carefully to the sounds around you. What scents do you notice? How does your body feel? Practicing this for just a few minutes can be transformative and help you feel fully present in the moment.
In my most recent blog entry, I talked about prioritizing inner well-being and self-discovery. I shared some of my experiences and the valuable knowledge I have gained over the course of the past two years. I want to continue to share the lessons I have learned with you. Throughout the preceding two-year period, I have dedicated myself entirely to refining my aptitude in the field of effective communication. I am truly passionate about studying communication. By investing tremendous effort and attention, I have identified and implemented the requisite methods to ensure that my messages are conveyed with absolute lucidity and received with understanding and appreciation. I'm still a work in progress, constantly learning each day.
I am thrilled to share with you what I have learned. Effective communication is an intricate art that requires more than just the right words, body language, facial expressions, or nonverbal communication. It involves the skillful delivery of messages in a manner that is both articulated and comprehensive. To help illustrate this point, let me provide a hypothetical scenario that I will present using a pseudonym to protect the privacy of those involved.
During a recent conversation with my acquaintance Zofia, I confided in her about my aspirations and the steps I planned to take to achieve my dream. She appeared to be genuinely supportive, with an amiable grin on her face. Zofia's enthusiasm seemed to mirror my own, and she acted as my personal cheerleader. However, I was taken aback when I later discovered that Zofia had shared with others that my dream was unrealistic and unattainable.
My friend, have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? I can empathize with your feelings. Rather than harboring resentment towards Zofia who distorted my message, I learned an important lesson. From this experience, I learned the importance of clear communication and how easily messages can be misinterpreted by others. It made me realize that everyone possesses their own unique perspective and interpretation of what we say. It's important to remember that people may interpret our words in different ways – and that is totally okay.
After some deep introspection, I have reached a significant epiphany - sharing every aspect of my hopes, aspirations, personal anecdotes, and desires with others is not always necessary. It's virtually impossible to please everyone, and I have learned to accept that fact.
Recently, I stumbled upon a quote on social media that struck a chord with me, "I don't care who I disappoint anymore." Throughout most of my life, I have been preoccupied with the opinions and thoughts of others, including their perceptions of me and how my loved ones feel about me. However, I have come to the realization that people will criticize and judge me regardless of what I do. This newfound realization has allowed me to liberate myself from the mental shackles I have created while striving to satisfy the expectations of others.
